Seminars encourage proactive role in addressing diabetes

Jessica Kerr, an assistant professor in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy, knows that medicine only goes so far when it comes to diabetes, which affects an estimated 17,000 in Madison County."The clinicians can only do so much," she said. "The patients are the ones that have to deal with this."Encouraging that proactive role is the goal of a diabetes education program Feb. 23 sponsored by the American Diabetes Association's Madison County Leadership Council at SIUE.The free event, which starts at 9 a.m. in the Delyte W.
