Area study: Diabetes a top killer

Residents in the Living Well Foundation's eight-parish northeastern Louisiana coverage area die twice as often from diabetes as the rest of the United States population and have a higher rate of obesity, a survey conducted for the foundation found.

Findings from the needs assessment conducted by Professional Research Consultants Inc. of Omaha, Neb., were released during a public meeting attended by more than 100 people at West Monroe City Hall on Wednesday.
